I am Subhradeep Mistry, currently, working as an assistant professor of chemistry at Ramananda college (Bishnupur, Bankura, West Bengal). Before joining here, I worked as a technical service specialist at Sigma-Aldrich (Merck KGaa) in Bangalore for 2.5 years. I have overall 7 years of research experience and more than 3 years of post-Ph.D experience at diverse positions. I have received my Ph.D degree in chemical sciences from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. My doctoral dissertation topic was synthesis and characterization of new crystalline inorganic-organic hybrid materials and understanding their structures and properties.

As a child, I was not particularly interested in science. Thanks to the subject Mathematics which still give me nightmares. Things started changing towards the later stage of my schooling and my interest started growing towards the subject of chemistry. This affection towards the subject was bolstered during my undergraduate and masters training. Later, what intrigued me most was the question of what happens when two nearby atoms interact? I got an opportunity of studying the same during my Ph.D. My doctoral thesis was centered on studying the magnetic behavior of new inorganic-organic hybrid extended polymer compounds. During my study, I observed how a minute difference in bond angle or bond length can potentially trigger a substantial change in the bulk magnetic behaviour of a material. There lies the power of a suitable interaction.

After the completion of my doctoral dissertation after one year of research associateship at IISc Bangalore, I joined Sigma-Aldrich as a technical service specialist.  My work was mainly to provide scientific inputs and technical solutions to chemistry research problems. This tenure enriched me differently from my academic training and provided me with an opportunity to learn industry practices as well as diverse tools. In January 2021, I joined Ramananda College (A West Bengal Govt. aided college in Bishnupur) as an assistant professor of chemistry.

In November 2022, I joined Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (a central University) as an assistant professor of chemistry. I teach both theoretical as well as practical courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Apart from teaching, preparing questions for tests and evaluation of answer sheets, mentoring students, and taking part in various administrative works are part of my job. I am also continuing my research work in collaboration with other labs in reputable institutes like IISc, NIT Durgapur and Central Leather Research Institute (Chennai).
